Organic Formations

I have found myself drawn to organic texture and form. While traveling in the west, the vastness of the rock formations of the Rocky Mountains made such an impression on me that the textures and forms I saw began to appear in my work. From this experience grew an appreciation of local rock formations that sent me on a journey of observation and research.  I recorded rock formations in my sketchbooks and photo journals, and, in doing so, discovered society's manipulation of the natural landscape to be an interesting phenomenon.  I was intrigued by how our environment is constantly being altered by roads, highways and interstates.  Our ecological systems are destroyed or pushed from their original habitats.  These expanding pressures on the environment result from society's growth.  It was a mystery to me that activity harmful to the environment still revealed beauty:  beauty that was a product of destruction.
